The very first weekend Joel and I were in town, we explored downtown during Red Festa, the annual festival in Gwangju that commemorates 518 Memorial Day. Though the history of the uprising is tragic, it is one of the things that makes me proudest to live here in Gwangju. It may not be the biggest or most important city in Korea, but it is deeply inspiring to live in a place that has historically fought so hard for freedom and democracy.
I am subscribed to KoreanClass101.com's YouTube channel, so I got this video via e-mail and thought it would be a cool thing to share. The video is in Korean, with both Korean and English subtitles, because it is designed for Korean language learners. Still, it is short and I thought it was a great primer to the holiday and the history.
